Narkanda is the apple basket of India because it is close to Thanedar and Kotgarh, both of which have apple orchards. You can’t go to Narkanda and not get a taste of some fresh apples at one of these two places. A man named Samuel (Satyanand) Stokes is the first person to have a successful apple harvest in India. In the early 1900s, he bought a 200-acre tea estate in Thanedar village and turned it into an apple orchard. It was also built in 1912, called Harmony Hall after his home in Philadelphia.
