There are potholes all the way through Razdan Pass. That’s how bad the road is. When you go to Gurez, you know that you are going to a place that not many people have been. You know that you’re seeing things that not many people have.
Wular Lake
On the way: Wular Lake isn’t in Gurez, but it is near the city. People who go to Bandipore will see it right before them. It is one of the largest freshwater lakes in Asia. Take a look at the picture on the right. Yes, it is in fact a lake. In the ground, there is wall water.
Razdan Pass
A high altitude pass is the only one on your way from Srinagar to Gurez, so this is the first and only one. Some of the most beautiful views can be seen from a 3,300-meter-high mountain. On both sides of the pass, the road will get bad.
The climb isn’t that steep. You have to stop here for a while to enjoy the views and take some great pictures.
Peer Baba Shrine
A little before the top of the pass is this shrine. It looks out over the valley in front and is looked after by the Indian Army.
In general, the whole place and how it is set up makes Dargah worth stopping by for a little while. The saint who is buried here is thought to have come from Lahore in 1933 and was buried at Razdan pass.
Kishen Ganga River
As you make your way down Razdan Pass and into Gurez Valley, you will be met by the Kishen Ganga River, which is both noisy and beautiful. It goes through Gurez before it meets the Jhelum River near Muzaffarabad in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir and turns into the Jhelum River. People in Pakistan call it the Neelum River. It flows through the Neelum Valley, which is a lovely place.
Can be done in the Kishen Ganga river, but you’ll have to make the arrangements for that in Srinagar first. A lot of people in the area like to fish for trout, and you can do the same. Another thing you can do is go camping near the river.
There are many places where you can set up your tent. It’s still very important, though, that you do it only in Dawar and not anywhere else. The Army and J&K police may also want to let you camp in Gurez.
Habba Khatoon Peak
This is probably the most popular thing for people to do in Gurez Valley. Her husband, the King of Kashmir, was taken and imprisoned by Akbar when he took Kashmir. Habba Khatoon was a poetess who lived real life with her husband.
Now, the name refers to a mountain that overlooks Dawar, the main town in Gurez. Habba Khatoon’s life was also going to be made into a movie with Dimple Kapadia in it, but it never came to fruition. People say that she hasn’t found her husband yet, but she still looks for him on the mountain.
Spooky? Maybe, but the mountain looks beautiful with the Kishen Ganga River flowing in its shadow. There is also a small stream of water that comes out of the mountain.
It is called “Habba Khatoon ka Chashma.” If you ask any of the people around, they can point you in the right direction to a small waterfall. Following Dawar, you will have to go across the river and turn to your left at the Army checkpoint in order to reach this place.
Harmukh
Because I didn’t know this name before I went to Gurez, I’m just going to write it down here to clear things up. Mountain peak Harmukh is thought to be sacred, but it is not in the Gurez Valley, which is where it is found In Ganderbal, it is in the district of Arin Bandipore.
You can climb up from there. Do not go looking for this in Gurez like I did after I found out that it was not there. Take a look at the Wikipedia article about the Harmukh peak if you want to learn more about it. Razdan top is the only place you can get a glimpse of Harmukh peak, but only if you know what you want and where to look.
Dawar
It is the heart and main town of the Gurez Valley. Because there is so much here, you’ll be surprised. There is everything from a mobile recharge shop to an ATM to small hotels and restaurants, a petrol station, a mechanic, and other stores that sell everyday goods.
My first thought was, “Wow, I’m in the middle of nowhere and there are so many people and things here.” Despite the fact that Dawar is made up of small villages, it is just a big town. I don’t even know why they call themselves different villages because it is all just one place: a big town.
There is a river called Kishen Ganga in the picture below. The peak in the middle is called Habba Khatoon, and there are beautiful houses on the right in the town of Dawar.
Tulail
People live in Baroni in Gurez Valley, which is a little after Dawar. Is it going to be easy to tell which one it is? No, you will not. Drive-by because there will be another group of about 20-25 homes.
There is a district called Tulail / Tehseel after Baroni, though, so the area that comes next is part of that district and not Dawar. There are two names for it: Tilail and Tilail.
In the district of Tulail, you can drive for about 60 kilometers after Dawar until you reach the town of Chakwali. This is the last village on the Indian side of the border.
When the road ends here, you can see the Pakistani-owned mountain range. So when you get to Chakwali, you are right next to the border with a clear view of Pakistan. Small and beautiful villages are found between Dawar and Chakwali, such as Shaikhpora and Puarana Tilail.
There are also villages like Badugam, Hasangam, Baduab, Miru, and Gujran.
Tulail, on the other hand, is not a township like Dawar. There is no place to stay here. It’s just a region that you go through, and one after the other, you’ll see these small towns. To be a tourist, you must stay in Dawar.
Vaishno Devi
The Vaishno Devi Temple is a very important Hindu temple in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir that is dedicated to Vaishno Devi.
It is in Katra, which is in the Reasi district of the Trikuta Mountains. One of Goddess Lakshmi’s incarnations or forms is Vaishno Devi, and Hindus believe that she is one of them.
It is one of the most popular places to go on pilgrimage in India. Millions of people go to the temple every year. During festivals like Navaratri, the number of people who come even goes up to one million.

How to Reach Vaishno Devi
There is a train station called Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra that is about 20 km away from the Holy Bhawan. It is the closest train station.
Even though there isn’t direct flight service, the nearest airport is in Jammu Tawi, which is 46.7 km away from Katra if you take NH 144. It’s also 46.7 km away. A lot of buses go between the base in Katra and cities in India, like Jammu Tawi, New Delhi, and so on.
How to reach Vaishno Devi by flight
As far away as you can get from Katra is the Jammu Airport, which is also called Sarwari Airport. This airport has a lot of flights to and from Katra. You can take a taxi from the airport to Katra in less than an hour after you land.
Buses can also be used for this route. Katra, on the other hand, has helicopters that can get you to the main Bhawan up to Sanjhi Chat, which is about 5 km away from the Holy Bhawan.
How to reach Vaishno Devi by road
At the base of the pilgrimage, which is Katra, there are a lot of bus routes. Buses can be taken from places like New Delhi, Amritsar, Jammu Tawi, and more. They cost very little. It’s also possible to take a shared taxi or cab when you get to Jammu Tawi.
How to reach Vaishno Devi by train
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi is the name of the goddess of love. Vaishno Devi’s holy cave can be reached by train from the Katra railway station in the city of Katra.
It used to be that trains only stopped at Jammu Tawi, but now they go to almost all of India’s major cities. It’s also possible to stay in a nice hotel right next to the train station.
On Friday evenings, the Sree Shakti train from Delhi to Vaishno Devi is the best way to get there. On Sunday morning, the train comes back to Delhi.
